The Samsung S3 – an iPhone killer?

mobiledevelopment There is only really one phone to take on the mighty Samsung S3, and that is the iPhone 5. There is only really one phone to take on the mighty Samsung S3, and that is the iPhone 5. We were excited to get our hands on an iPhone 5 so that we could do what many people have been asking us to for a long time, compare the iPhone 5 with the Samsung S3, and see which one comes out on top.

First of all, let's talk about the sturdiness of the handsets. The iPhone 5 is metal but it just seems a little too lightweight as a phone. Think the Apple TV remote (if you have one) or something along those lines. It feels flimsy, even though it has more going for it than the S3, which is made up of plastic. However, we felt that the S3 still felt, bizarrely, more sturdy.

Apple went crazy over the iPhone 5 and it's thickness, spending millions trying to create what looks to be the world's thinnest phone (for it's capabilities). If you turn it on the side so you get a side-on view, you will see something that almost isn't there. It is a whole millimeter thinner than the Samsung S3, so it wins out in this regard. Previous iterations of the iPhone have been quite difficult to grip, and the makers have stepped back from this problem with a real solution. The iPhone 5 has a ridged back, so you will not find it so easy to drop now. We would be remiss if we didn't explain one issue to you though. If you buy a black iPhone 5, expect to see it scratched very quickly, this is because it is an aluminum phone. You won't notice this on white handsets.

This is the first time the iPhone has ventured beyond 3.5 inches for screen size. It now has a screen that is 4 inches, which makes for much more fun when watching movies or TV. And when it comes to games, you have just added an extra dimension.

The new Apple handset has one big advantage. It has the best looking screen, which means you can get a to more stuff on there, and you have an incredibly sharp and clear image. In bright sunlight, this phone definitely beats the S3 due to the fact that there is hardly any glare that affects the screen, however the S3 has a very bright screen and in a dark rom it will win hands down.

Connectivity

We like connectivity; it is the most important part of a phone's life so the makers have to get it right. For the first time in the history of Apple phones, the connector is no longer a 30-pin affair. Instead, Apple has made the phone with a new connectivity interface, which is a lot like a mini USB. This means that if you have a charging unit or set of speakers that allow for an iPhone, you will not be able to quickly just throw the new iPhone on the dock and wait to hear beautiful music. It can be connected, but it has to be through an adaptor that Apple give you.

Here is where the Samsung wins out a little. You can add extra storage through SD cards, something you cannot do with an Apple phone. You can also connect and swap files with any PC in the case of the S3. Owners aren't limited to Tunes.

There are some great points about the iPhone 5 that will only really be seen clearly once the phone has been out and is being sported by people around you.
